Kindle Fire

Kindle Fire

There is a myriad of natural health and related topics available on competitively priced Kindle books and Amazon MP3s. With Amazon unveiling its new Kindle Fire at only $199.00, more of us can avail ourselves of over 2000 books on natural health alone, including such titles as Andrew T. Weil’s ‘Natural Health, Natural Medicine: The Complete Guide to Wellness and Self-Care for Optimum Health’ and Mark Spengler’s ‘Prescription for Natural Cures: A Self-Care Guide for Treating Health Problems with Natural Remedies Including Diet, Nutrition, Supplements, and Other Holistic Methods’ at the touch of a screen.

The Kindle Fire weighs 14.6 ounces, has a 7-inch color display, and a color touch screen. The device plays video from Amazon’s streaming Prime service, plays MP3s from the Amazon store and boasts faster loading of Web pages through Amazon’s cloud services.

The Kindle Fire comes with 8GB of storage. Additional free storage for movies, books, and music will be available to Kindle Fire owners.

As with the current Kindle books, movies will also wirelessly synchronize between devices to simply pick up where one left off.

Although Amazon markets several Kindle devices that feature 3G cellular connections, the initial version of the Kindle Fire will be Wi-Fi only.

The Fire’s screen is smaller than the Apple iPad’s 10-inch screen and doesn’t have an embedded camera or microphone but the tablet is much lighter and can be comfortably held in one hand. The Kindle Fire supports all popular video formats, including Adobe’s Flash. Additionally, the Kindle Fire provides wireless updates, eliminating the need for cords and cables.

With a dual-core processor and the current version of Google’s Android software, the Kindle Fire has been quick and responsive in demonstrations and third-party apps will be available in addition to propitiatory services. Amazon’s ‘Prime’ service offers streaming movies and programs for $79.00 annually.

In addition to the Kindle Fire, Amazon introduced three other products based on the black-and-white ‘E-ink’ displays: The Kindle Touch 3G at $149.00, which uses infrared sensors for touch, eliminating the tiny keypad below the screen and includes free wireless 3G data service; the identical Kindle Touch lacking the 3G service is priced at $99.00; and the Kindle e-reader, using Wi-Fi and a directional pad instead of the touch and 3G features, is priced at $79.00 and is currently available.

These new Kindle products can be pre-ordered now and will ship mid-November for US consumers. No date has been set for international markets.

At these prices and the various services offered, the glow is certainly on Amazon’s Kindle e-reader and tablets this fall.
